The Breakdown, Shakedown.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on May 28, 2008 by nickladish

It’s a clear day and all is right in the world. The wind beckons against this finely tuned hunk of rubber, metal and steel. Suddenly you feel a stiff jerk and not of the Steve Martin variety. This jerk is abruptly followed by the steady cadence of ticks against your warm engine. You ease this beast to the side of the road, eager to tame it. You lift the hood and stare at the wires, cylinders and fluid. As your having a look about, you realize you know nothing in regard to fixing the siutation at hand. You simply are at the mercy of this machine. Despite this situation, somehow deep down you know all will be well in the land of the “mobile”.

Part II coming soon……………

Joining the bandwagon

Here is something I am not always known for, a serious/non entertaining blog entry: Enjoy!

Have you ever had that certain friend who, never watches a day of football until super bowl Sunday? All of the sudden the day after the big game, is suddenly a raving supporter of the team that won? Sure you have! We all have. See this my friend, is the true definition of the word bandwagon:  : a popular party, faction, or cause that attracts growing support —often used in such phrases as jump on the bandwagon : a current or fashionable trend.

It happens in many forms of daily life. From fashion, musical taste, smoking, drugs, sports, politics and general interests. ”Why is he bringing this up?!” you may be asking yourself. Well, I have been following the presidential candidates quite closely for 16 months. I have seen many people come and go, with promise of hope, change, integrity and prosperity. One thing that has been bothering me lately is the  Obama bandwagon. I have seen this trend especially with people of college age. When I ask many people who supposedly support Obama, they almost never have a clear reason why they do. Furthermore, most never watch a debate or read an article on any of the candidates. And nearly all never have taken the time to find out the issues each candidate supports. It seems the only reason they support him are because he is something new, something fresh, or that they have seen his face on magazines or Internet/TV ads. Mostly, I believe they have simply just heard others saying they are pulling for Obama. Peer influence is greater than most people think. It is most often the reason people become part of the bandwagon crowd.

Now I realize some of you reading this are supporters of Obama and in fact follow the candidates/politics. This post is in no way, shape or form, meant to insult you. I just wish more people would take the time to follow politics, world events, and the current presidential candidates.

So, you may be wondering; “Who is Nick supporting for president?” Well, after careful thought, reading up intensely on each candidate, and learning what issues are important to each candidate, I have decided to support Senator John McCain.  As you seek out who you will or who you won’t vote for come election day, I ask that you seek out a choice that best fits who you are and what you stand for as an individual. If that person happens to be John McCain, then feel free to let me know…..

All the best in your decision making,

Nick

Happy St. Patricks Day

d178-l.jpgd178-l.jpgAs I logged in to this blog o’ mine, I was surprised to see a massive spike in vistors on March 10th. This especially got my attention, as I haven’t posted a new blog since February 12. Not that I mind by any means, I’m glad that people are visiting and reading what’s on my mind…

I saw a baby in India with two faces on one head, one body. Apparently they are worshiping this baby as a reincarnated god. The whole time I saw this baby, it was with eyes closed and it got me wondering exactly how that works. Is one side paralyzed? Do they work in unison?! Answers!! I need answers…however, CNN.com didn’t supply what I needed. I also saw a story of a 17th month old who can read and she only has one face! Perhaps we should worship her as the reincarnated god of levar burton aka mr. reading rainbow himself?! How does Ms. Rainbow sound?!

I’m now a month into my 29th year…30 is creeping ever so quickly, but I will enjoy this year and all it has to offer.

More music, new recordings and dates coming soon….stay tuned..

Cheers,
Nick

Today I am celebrating my Irish heritage. If you choose to do the same, whether your irish or not, be safe!

Road Rage (Against The Machine)

Posted in Uncategorized on January 28, 2008 by nickladish

“What a great day to be alive!” I say to myself as I get into my car and fire the engine. As I begin to drive, I roll down the window and crank some tunes and think “What a great day for an aimless drive”. Today, not even the dreadful prices of crude can bring me down. In fact, it seems as though, nothing can bring me down. That is, until I enter the freeway. Speeding along at a steady rate of speed, I suddenly see a bright red beast in front of me. His name appears to be ford. (Escort to be more exact). It seems this guy has forgot or perhaps never learned that the pass lane is the fast lane and the fast lane is the pass lane! Should I slam into his rear bumper?! Or perhaps enforce my horn-a-tude upon this lad? I take a deep breath, breathe in the fresh afternoon air and realize it’s not worth the hassle. I begin to laugh as I think of the stupidity of road rage. A moment later, Mr. Escort seems to realize either his mistake or me behind him and kindly pulls to the right lane. Ahh yes! “Victory at last!” I think to myself as I drive off into the sunset.

Cheers to all!

Selfish aka Me, Myself and I.

l_f959b1619970335254ecbc811e6ca29a.jpgSelfish (not to be cofunsed with shellfish, elvis, or elfish) is an adjective

Date: 1640
1: concerned excessively or exclusively with oneself : seeking or concentrating on ones own advantage, pleasure, or well-being without regard for others
2: arising from concern with ones own welfare or advantage in disregard of others <a selfish act>
3: being an actively replicating repetitive sequence of nucleic acid that serves no known function <selfish DNA>; also : being genetic material solely concerned with its own replication <selfish genes>

self·ish·ly adverb
self·ish·ness noun
Most of us are caught up in this world and life worrying for the most part about ourselves. It’s an easy thing to do. But the problem with this behavior is that it seems to be on a steep downward spiral. We continue to shut our fellow neighbor(s) out of our lives by building higher fences, and by also failing to do more than perhaps a mere wave as we pass them by.  My new year and life resolution is to reach out more to my neighbors. I plan to have a big bar-b-que as soon as the weather warms. But for me it’s more than that, its creating actual friendships with them that is most important. We are to love our neighbors as we would ourself, and for some of us, that’s a whole lot of love!
For once my eye lids are heavy and beginning to surrender to the peacful slumber that awaits me :)…I think I will take advantage of this rare opportunity….

The Process Of Life, Or A Lie?

Posted in Uncategorized on January 13, 2008 by nickladish

l_64f0c1d7af473a42d0d7187aa64534d1.jpgSchool, college, marriage, buying a house, having kids, having a career, making money, retiring, dying. Is this really what life is all about? If you take a look at how most people live their lives, then yes. Whether we realize it or not, we are brainwashed to believe that this is what we are meant to live for in this life. From the government, parents, teachers, media and so on, we are reminded over and over that this is our life(s) aspiration and goal. What it sounds like to me is more along the lines of being robotic and falling in line with what the “big machine” wants you to do and believe. I recently had a friend of mine call me some what of a vagabond, a drifter if you will. However, I don’t see that to be true. I see myself as someone who has chosen to live his life against the norm of what society teaches us. I never could quite buy into the thought of what I mentioned in the first sentence of this blog. As I continue to get older, more aware and educated in the way of the world, I begin to see what “God’s” real plan for life really is. It’s more about knowledge, awareness of this planet, love for other’s as well as ourselves. What you drive, how much money you make, how big your house is, how big your retirement plan, simply is not why we are here. They are simply by products of this life. Now, I’m not saying that it’s bad to get an education, I think it’s important, as long as you are actually there to learn. If you are simply going to school to earn an 8×10 piece of paper with your name on it, then you should reconsider your reasoning and motives. Making money is a fact of survival and of life. However, money should not own your life. If you are fortunate enough to make a good living, then I have to ask you, are you using your money to help those less fortunate? (If you are, I applaud you!).

Over the past five years in particular, I have been discovering more about what life is about-And learning more about myself in the process. I’ve made my life more about serving others, rather than serving myself. Now I’m not trying to create some image of myself that makes me appear flawless and all knowing. I’m simply saying that I am doing my best to live such things out in my everyday life. I am always trying to absorb as much knowledge and insight to all thing in life each and every day. I see this world in decay, and I’m not just talking about global warming. We are in decay socially, morally, mentally and physically. I think we have come to believe that we as individuals don’t have the power to possess change. However, this simply is not true. We as individuals make up this planet called earth and we do in fact have the power to change the world. Now the question is, will you simply just live “the process of life” or begin to make changes in order to really experience what this life is all about? It’s your life and you only have one in which to live.

Cheers,

Nick

Burn Out

Posted in Uncategorized on January 10, 2008 by nickladish

Dark of night is when I feel the most alone,

The time of bitter silence creeping into my mind.

Twisted desired of my heart,

I try to fill the void inside this hole of darkness that leaves me blind.

I run, scream, write, sing and bleed,

Yet I can’t seem to escape this enternal desire.

This tragic desire that won’t let me sleep,

Burn out you, just burn out and let me be.

New Year, New Thoughts

Posted in Uncategorized on January 10, 2008 by nickladish

A new year is well upon us now and with that my first blog of the year. With the new year come many promises, resolutions and goals. Unfortunately, many of us maintain these only for a short time, falling victim to our previous way of life. The world around us tends to suck us in as we are surrounded by many things: TV, Media, Internet, Video Games, the list goes on. I have some things in the works including a website that will be a blogging site to share ideas and thoughts. Additionally, I will be re launching a new and improved website for my music. I am also recording and releasing a new album this year. You would think that would be enough right?! Well actually I am also busy at work on writing my first two novels. One is memoir based, the other is a piece of fiction, with a third book in development. I’m not sure what the final outcome of these books will be, after I complete the writing and editing, I will be seeking a publisher.

As you can see there are many things on the horizon, and for this I am extremely excited! I hope you will all continue to check this blog on a regular basis and share your comments and ideas. (There is a section after each of my blog posts to do so).  Here’s to a good year full of cheer and goals that we not only make, but accomplish.

Cheers,
 Nick

Confusion and lack of website..

Posted in Uncategorized on December 15, 2007 by nickladish

For some reason unknown to me, there seems to be some issues between me and the person who made my website. That being said, I will continue to post on here to keep you updated on all that is going on with me. I will have my site back up again in the near future, although it may end up being a completely new site altogether. Hope you all are well and have a safe and happy holiday season!
