Joining the bandwagon
Here is something I am not always known for, a serious/non entertaining blog entry: Enjoy!
Have you ever had that certain friend who, never watches a day of football until super bowl Sunday? All of the sudden the day after the big game, is suddenly a raving supporter of the team that won? Sure you have! We all have. See this my friend, is the true definition of the word bandwagon: : a popular party, faction, or cause that attracts growing support —often used in such phrases as jump on the bandwagon : a current or fashionable trend.
It happens in many forms of daily life. From fashion, musical taste, smoking, drugs, sports, politics and general interests. ”Why is he bringing this up?!” you may be asking yourself. Well, I have been following the presidential candidates quite closely for 16 months. I have seen many people come and go, with promise of hope, change, integrity and prosperity. One thing that has been bothering me lately is the Obama bandwagon. I have seen this trend especially with people of college age. When I ask many people who supposedly support Obama, they almost never have a clear reason why they do. Furthermore, most never watch a debate or read an article on any of the candidates. And nearly all never have taken the time to find out the issues each candidate supports. It seems the only reason they support him are because he is something new, something fresh, or that they have seen his face on magazines or Internet/TV ads. Mostly, I believe they have simply just heard others saying they are pulling for Obama. Peer influence is greater than most people think. It is most often the reason people become part of the bandwagon crowd.
Now I realize some of you reading this are supporters of Obama and in fact follow the candidates/politics. This post is in no way, shape or form, meant to insult you. I just wish more people would take the time to follow politics, world events, and the current presidential candidates.
So, you may be wondering; “Who is Nick supporting for president?” Well, after careful thought, reading up intensely on each candidate, and learning what issues are important to each candidate, I have decided to support Senator John McCain. As you seek out who you will or who you won’t vote for come election day, I ask that you seek out a choice that best fits who you are and what you stand for as an individual. If that person happens to be John McCain, then feel free to let me know…..
All the best in your decision making,
Nick
